Metabo B™ is a pharmaceutical grade dietary supplement specially formulated as the only sustained release beaded capsule containing vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid in the US market. Each time-disintegrating capsule is 89% bioavailable for better absorption of these nutrients. Many doctors recommend this improved formula to satisfy their patient's various needs. Metabo-B™ has been successfully used in people with dietary deficiencies and in medical weight loss programs.

Recent studies have shown that vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid can lower homocysteine, a free radical generator capable of oxidizing cholesterol, one of the major contributing factors in heart disease. Elevated homocysteine levels have been identified as an independent risk factor for heart disease.  Elevated homocysteine levels are thought to promote thrombogenesis, impair endothelial vasomotor function, promote lipid peroxidation and induce vascular smooth muscle proliferation.  Evidence from retrospective, cross-sectional and prospective studies links elevated homocysteine levels with coronary heart disease and stroke.

Maintaining proper levels of vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid helps protect the body and mind against stress and deficiencies that can may contribute to depression.  Studies show that people with depression and other emotional problems are more likely than non-depressed people to be deficient in these vitamins, which makes supplementation important.

FOLIC ACID

Folic acid (also known as vitamin B9, folate or folacin) is used by the body for intracellular metabolism, DNA synthesis and conversion of homocysteine to methionine, a precursor to natural SAM-e which supports healthy moods.  Modern diets tend to be deficient in this natural nutrient, which is why in 1998, U.S. food manufacturers were required to add folic acid to all cold cereals and baking flour products. However, surprisingly, folic acid in food is only about 40% bioavailable.

VITAMIN B12

Taking folic acid supplements alone may mask vitamin B12 deficiencies. Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) is a water-soluable vitamin that is required for proper red blood cell formation, neurological function, DNA synthesis and digestive health. Studies have shown that a deficiency of vitamin B12 can lead to abnormal neurological and psychiatric symptoms.

Vitamin B12 is naturally found in animal products.  People who would benefit from B12 supplementation include those with dietary deficiencies, trouble absorbing vitamin B12 from food, habitual antacid users and vegetarians.

VITAMIN B6

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is involved in more biochemical reactions within the body than almost any other single nutrient, including an active role in the immune system and metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates and lipids. It is found concentrated in muscle mass. Marginal deficiencies of vitamin B6 may result in immune deficits and a variety of other health issues.

The following conditions have been associated with vitamin B6 deficiencies:

  • Asthma
